Songwriter’s Beat is a monthly acoustic concert series for performing songwriters, where all are encouraged to perform new material. Founded in 2000 by NYC singer-songwriter Valerie Ghent and running continually for 14 years in New York’s renowned Greenwich Village, Songwriter’s Beat hosted over 400 singer-songwriters from all over the world.

With support from the ASCAP Foundation, Songwriter’s Beat continues to offer intensive songwriting workshops and master classes for songwriters, including workshops on topics including “Songs for Social Action”, “Song Accelerator Intensive”  and “Stripped-Down Songwriting” with Valerie Ghent & Alex Forbes, as well as Studio Production workshops live in the recording studio with legendary engineer and producer Steve Addabbo.

Since 2020, our songwriting workshops are held on Zoom, a change which has expanded the series to include songwriters from all over the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia. Songwriting workshops are free for ASCAP members.

Songwriter’s Beat brings new songs to life and artists to new audiences. We provide opportunities for songwriters to perform original material, encourage the creation of new songs, and introduce artists to new audiences. Our intensive weekend songwriting workshops/master classes bring both professional and creative benefit in fostering collaborations and bringing songwriters to a new level in their songwriting.
